Hannah Yu

Hannah was born into a musical family in South Korea. Steadfast love of music was deeply planted and nurtured by her father, who was an inspiring pastor, a gifted singer and an advocate of music education. His strong interest in music making was passed down to Hannah and her younger brother, and they both became musicians.

Finding her special talent in classical piano music, Hannah majored and received a Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance in South Korea. Graduating as best performer at the senior recital, she was awarded a debut concert in 1994 in Pusan, South Korea. She came to realize she was especially blessed with a passion and musical sensitivity to express beauty in music.

In 1997, she moved to the United States to pursue graduate studies at California State University, Fullerton. Moving to the east coast, she entered Temple University graduate school, where she received her Master's Degree and Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance. While at Temple, Hannah won the 2004 concerto competition and performed Mozart's Piano Concerto, “Coronation,” with the Temple University Symphony Orchestra. For the reopening event of the Baptist Temple in 2010, currently Temple Performing Arts Center, she was chosen to perform in the Arts Center for alumni contributors.

She has been giving solo piano concerts actively at churches, concert halls, and nursing homes to share God's wonderful blessing of music with her audiences. As a collaborative pianist, she has accompanied for recitals and concerts for solo instrumentalists, vocalists, opera singers, college choirs, and community choirs.

Hannah has served as a church organist/pianist since 1988 in South Korea and the United States. In the U.S., she has served as music director and pianist at Crescentville United Methodist Church (UMC) in Philadelphia and Providence Presbyterian Church in Quakertown. Currently she serves as organist at Bethel Hill UMC in Lansdale. Since 1990, Hannah has been teaching piano at private studios and schools, including Temple University, and currently has been teaching at Dock Mennonite Academy in Souderton since 2018.
